The energy research programmes of the federal government

Funding on non-nuclear energy research since 1977

Since the end of the 1970s, the German government has continuously promoted research into non-nuclear energy technologies. The successive energy research programmes form the programmatic basis for this. As part of the programmes, the participating ministries call for applications for research projects, for example through funding announcements, funding calls or ideas competitions.

Since October 2023, the Energy Research Programme has set the guidelines for the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action's energy research policy.

On this page you will find the six previous energy research programmes and corresponding success reviews published to date, as well as the funding announcement for the 6th Energy Research Programme. While new applications can only be submitted in the current 7th Energy Research Programme, projects that were approved in the previous programme are still running.
