Consultation process on the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action's energy research programme
As the lead ministry for energy and climate policy, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) carried out a broad-based consultation process for the update of the energy research programme in spring 2023. This is intended to promote research for a climate-neutral and resilient energy system in 2045. As part of the strategy development process, the BMWK has therefore called on stakeholders from science, industry and society to contribute their expertise. Last but not least, intensive cooperation between industry, science and society is a necessary condition for mastering the technological challenges of the energy transition and quickly putting innovations into practice.
Mission-oriented innovation policy for a climate-neutral and resilient energy system in 2045
The energy research programme was published in October 2023. It addresses the Federal Government's targets in the heating and electricity sector for 2030 and 2045 as well as the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy. As part of the federal government's energy policy, the programme is geared towards the political goals of the energy transition and makes an important contribution to climate protection and security of supply.
While the previous programmes pursued a technology-focused approach, the current energy research programme is geared towards completing the energy transition and accelerating the transformation. The programme should also be able to react to dynamic political and technological developments and adapt to changes in the framework conditions as a ‘self-learning’ programme.
Survey on the 8th Energy Research Programme
Interested parties were able to take part in a survey on the 8th Energy Research Programme until 27 March 2023. This was carried out by Project Management Jülich on behalf of the BMWK as part of the consultation process. A summary of the results of the survey will follow shortly.
